IDEA: Learning by heart: Psycho-neuro-cardiology–rediscovering the heart as an organ of knowing and communication

Throughout the ages belief systems across the planet have recognized the heart as the seat of wisdom. Now modern science has begun to observe the concept of the ‘heart brain’, describing it as a sensory organ and a sophisticated information-encoding and prosessing center. 65% of heart cells are neural cell that monitor and maintain the control of the the entire mind/brain/body physical
process.

The most exciting ”news” of all, however, is that the heart has direct unmediated connections with the emotion/cognitive structures of the brain, and generates an electromagnetic field around the body that spans from 12 to 25 around the body. The implications are exciting and change the way we understand how and what we communicate with each other.

Shannon O’Neill is a Psychotherapist whose training and practice in depth psychology and body-centered therapy has led to a deeper understanding of the complex matrix of psyche and soma. She has her masters and is now pursuing her PhD from Pacifica in California. She has been a presenter and steering committee member of the Institute of Noetic Science, exploring the frontiers of science and spirituality all around the United States.
